Blue Flames
Members of the original Blue Flames Club sponsored or played on softball, flag football and soccer teams around the Florissant and North County area.
The original reason for the start of the Blue Flames Club was to help various sports teams get sponsors. Our club teams played for various sponsors such as Corral Lounge , Happy Hours , Sportsman's Bar , Mattingly's Bar and others from 1980 through 1992.
Our 1st fundraising event was a New Years Eve Party held in 1984 at Finnegers in Baden and raised $2000.00 for team entry fees,uniforms and charity. After assisting Tomorrows Hope with a fundraising Bar-B-Que in 1988 we held our own Bar-B-Que at Sportsman's Bar in 1989 and raised and donated $7000.00 to the Special Olympics.
Starting in 1990 our Bar-B-Que fundraisers were held at Mattingly's Bar and this continued till 1993. In those four years at Mattingly's Bar some $44,200.00 was donated to the Special Olympics. Along with the events held at Mattingly's Bar, club members also held Nite-At-the-Races programs from 1992 through 1995 which raised an additional $15,500.00 for Special Olympics and various other charities. In 1994 club members voted to donate money made from our various fundraisers to other charities in the Florissant / North County area. These charities include : Marygrove, Sheltered Workshop, SPECIAL OLYMPICS, American Cancer Society North County RELAY for LIFE, EVANGELICAL CHILDREN'S HOME and many needy families in our area.
